Probe body formed over Suhrawardy hospital fire

A four-member probe body has been constituted to investigate the fire incident at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital in the capital asking the committee to submit its reports within the next three working days, reports BSS.

The committee was formed soon after the fire was broke out at a store room on the first floor of a new building of the hospital around 6:00pm Thursday.

The probe committee will submit its report within the next three working days, fire service’s central control room duty officer Md Russell Shikdar said.

Firefighters doused the fire around 11:00pm on Thursday night after five hours frantic efforts of the 16 units of firefighters.

As the firefighters brought the fire under control, none – patient, doctor, employee and attendant – was hurt in the incident, the hospital’s director professor Uttam Kumar Barua told newsmen.

According to the fire service and civil defence, there was no casualty in the fire incident as all patients were taken to safer place and patients of emergency department were shifted to nearby hospitals.

Fire service and civil defence director general brigadier general Ali Ahmed Khan told newsmen that they were able to take away the patients safely.

Earlier, health minister Zahid Maleque and state minister for health Murad Hasan rushed to the hospital to oversee the overall situation of the hospital.
