Suhrawardy hospital partially reopened after fire
The Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital has been partially reopened on Friday after dousing the massive fire that broke out at the hospital on Thursday.
Many of the patients, who were evacuated and shifted to different nearby hospitals after the cloud of smoke engulfed the hospital, have started coming back.
As many as 1200 patients admitted in the hospital were shifted to nearby hospitals after the fire broke out around 5:50pm on Thursday.
However, the hospital is not receiving any child patients yet as the children’s ward was completely gutted by the fire. Women’s ward was also severely damaged by the fire.
The hospital sources said that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), operation theatre, emergency unit, and some other units were fully operational on Friday.
Stating that most of the units of the hospital have resumed their operation, the hospital’s director professor Uttam Barum urged the patients to return there for treatment.
Meanwhile, the government has constituted a four-member probe body to investigate the fire incident at the hospital.
The committee was asked to submit its reports within the next three working days.
