Bangladesh, Netherlands ink 2 MoUs

The ministry of water resources of Bangladesh signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Dutch institutions on Wednesday in the Netherlands, says a press release.

The MoUs were signed with Deltares, a Dutch research organisation involved in water-related research, and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, a world famous Dutch institution involved in education, training and research in water sector.

The MoU with the Deltares will enable Bangladesh to have support from Deltares in water research, particularly in the fields of delta planning, river management, policy planning and implementation, management of floods and droughts, water quantity and quality, disaster management, coastal polder management as well as geotechnical, river and coastal engineering, the news release adds. 

The other MoU with the IHE Delft will enable capacity development of future young water professionals from Bangladesh through tailor-made short courses, MSc and PhD programmes including training courses on basin wide water resources management; joint action research to identify innovative and practical solution for water resources management in Bangladesh; and collaboration regarding proposed international training institute by ministry of water resources of Bangladesh for water resources development and management.

Secretary of water resources ministry Kabir Bin Anwar signed the MoUs on behalf of Bangladesh while Jaap Kwadijk, science director of Deltares and Eddy Moors, Rector of IHE Delft signed the respective MoUs on behalf of their respective organisations.

Bangladesh ambassador to the Netherlands Sheikh Mohammed Belal joined the MoU signing ceremony at the IHE Delft while director general of Bangladesh Water Development Board Md Mahfuzur Rahman, among others, joined the signing ceremony of the MoUs at Deltares and IHE Delft.
