As many as 70 dead bodies were recovered from a fire that broke out at a five-storey building in Chawkbazar area at the old part of Dhaka city on Wednesday night.
Inspector general of police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary confirmed the death toll to the journalists around 8:30am on Thursday.
The IGP apprehended that the number of death might go up.
“There might have more dead bodies inside the building. We are now conducting a search in the burnt building,” Javed added.
“It was a chemical godown. It was full of chemical substances. The fire might have spread in the areas quickly, but the firefighters managed to douse the fire,” the IGP said
