Metro rail project to be completed by Dec next year: Quader

The metro rail project would be fully completed by December 2020 while the construction of Uttara to Agargaon would be completed by the end of this year, road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader said on Monday.

He said this while inaugurating the Phase 5 of the metro rail project at Khamarbari area in the city.

For the first time in Bangladesh, steel screw pile driving is being used in construction work of metro rail's route-6, reports UNB.

Under package-5 of metro rail route-6, a three-kilometer line stretching from Agargaon to Karwanbazar will be constructed.

Local company Abdul Monem Limited has been working with Japanese Company PEKKEN-ABENIKKO to implement package 5.

Metro rail managing director MAN Siddik, project director Aftab Uddin Talukdar, Abdul Monem Limited deputy managing director Mohiuddin Monem and director Anis Habib were present at the inauguration, among others.

Once the 20.1-kilometre metro rail project featuring 16 stations goes into operation, it is expected to transport around 60,000 passengers every hour.
