Mother, daughter 'gang-raped', 2 arrested

Police have arrested two suspected rapists among six on charges of gang-raping a mother and her daughter after promising them to board on a bus in Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.

The arrestees are Delwar Hossain, 30 and Shafique, 25. The other four suspects are Mokhles, 32, Badal, 42, Babu Mia, 25 and Alamgir, 40. All of them are from Shibpur's Srishtigar area.

The incident took place in an abandoned jute factory in Srishtigar on Friday evening.

Victim mother filed a case against the six people on charges of gang rape with Shibpur police station on Saturday morning.

The plaintiff mentioned in the case statement that she and her daughter strated travelling in a bus from Sayedabad bus stand at 3:00pm on Friday to reach Habiganj.

Their bus went out of order on Dhaka-Sylhet highway near Srishtigar bus stand of Shibpur around 6:00pm.

Six locals directed the mother and her daughter away from there, promising to board them on another bus, she added.

At one stage, the six men dragged the daughter towards an abandoned jute factory. The mother ran after them. Then the six men gang raped the mother and her daughter in two separate rooms of the abandoned factory, according to the case statement.

The six men managed to flee the scene after the gang-rape.

Police said they along with the victims conducted an overnight drive and arrested two of them.

Delwar and Shafique confessed to gang-raping the mother and her daughter, policemen added. Following their confession, four more people were identified.

The mother is 52 while daughter is 30.

Narsingdi sadar hospital resident physician Syed Amirul Haque Shamim said the medical test of the mother and her daughter was carried out. In this regard, the decision would be taken on Monday as Sunday is holiday.

Shibpur model police station inspector Mominul Islam said the six men were sued in connection with the gang rape incident. The arrested two suspects confessed to their involvement in the rape incident.

They were sent to the court on Saturday and efforts are on to detain the rest of the rape suspects.
