Road, transport and bridges minister Obaidul Qauder is now doing well after open heart surgery at Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore and expected to be shifted to a cabin next week, physician Abu Nasar Rizvi said on Thursday, reports UNB.

"He's now at ICU (Intensive Care Unit). Physicians hope if the improvement continues, he'll be shifted to a cabin in the middle of next week,” he quoted a member of the medical board as saying.

Abu Nasar Rizvi is a physician of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Obaidul Quader, also general secretary of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), underwent a successful bypass surgery at the hospital on Wednesday.

Quader was admitted to BSMMU on 3 March following breathing complications and tests revealed three blockages in his coronary arteries.

He was flown to Singapore the next day for treatment at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital.
