Two men were killed in an alleged gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Sat Rasta intersection in the capital's Tejgaon industrial area early Friday, reports UNB.

The deceased are Naim, 35 and Jamal, 38.

Mahiuddin Faruki, additional superintendent of police of RAB-2, said the elite force members also arrested two people -- Hanif and Litu -- from Gazipur in connection with their suspected involvement in car hijacking on Thursday night.

After interrogation, RAB came to know that the members of a car hijacking syndicate were to hand over a snatched vehicle to its owner in exchange of money on Thursday night.

Later, a team of RAB-2 conducted a drive at Sat Rasta intersection around 4:30am and gave signal to a covered van to stop.

But ignoring the instruction of the RAB team, the gang members tried to flee and opened fire on the elite force, forcing them to retaliate in self-defence, leaving two criminals dead on the spot.

According to the law enforcement, one pistol, four bullets and some equipment used to break locks were recovered from the spot.

Prothom Alo, however, could not verify the RAB's version of the incident independently as no version was available immediately either from any witness or from any member of the victim’s families.
