The shuttle train service in Chittagong University has been suspended following a blockade enforced by a faction of Bangladesh Chhatra League over several demands.

Bangladesh Chhatra League is the student wing of ruling Bangladesh Awami League.

The BCL men demanded release of six of their activists and withdrawal of a case filed against them.

The BCL faction locked the university’s main entrance and took position at Zero Point on the campus around 7:00am on Sunday.

Later, they put up a barricade on the rail tracks and abducted the driver of the shuttle train. It caused suffering to university-bound teachers and several thousand students.

Although the driver was released later, the train service still remains suspended when this report was filed around 11:00am.

Confirming about the blockade, Md Jakir Hossain, in-charge of Sholoshohor railway police outpost, said that additional security measures have been taken on the campus.

Belal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Hathazari police station, said that a case was filed against several BCL activists after a clash between two factions of Awami League's student wing and recovery of arms.

Protesting the incident, the faction of BCL enforced the strike.
