Two owners of FR Tower sent to jail

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent Tasvir Ul Islam, one of the owners of FR Tower, and SMHI Faruque, the land owner of the building, to jail, scrapping their bail pleas in the case filed over 28 March inferno that killed 28 people, including a firefighter, and injured 70 others.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury passed the order and also asked the jail authorities to arrange treatment for the accused as per the jail code.

The court came up with the order as the police produced the duo before it after the end of their seven days remand. The investigation officer and inspector of Detective Branch (DB) of police Jalal Uddin at the time pleaded to keep them behind bars for the sake of proper investigation.

Tasvir, also a leader of BNP, and Faruque have been blamed for collusion in causing loss of lives and properties with evil intention, causing loss of lives, severe injuries and damage to properties in fire caused by severe negligence, in the case.

Earlier on 31 March, the court placed Tasvir Ul Islam and SMHI Faruque on seven-day remand.

Banani Police Box in-charge sub-inspector Milton Dutta filed the case with Banani police station on 30 March against Tasvir and Faruque and Rupayon Group chairman Liyakat Ali Khan Mukul.

The case later transferred to DB for investigation. Tasvir and Faruque too were arrested on the night of 30 March from different areas of the capital.
