AL leader remanded over Nusrat murder

Sonagazi upazila Awami League president Ruhul Amin has been put on a five-day remand over the murder of madrasa student Nusrat Jahan Rafi.  

Feni’s senior judicial magistrate Shoraf Uddin Ahmed granted the remand on Saturday.

Earlier on Friday, a team of Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested Ruhul Amin from his Takia Road residence in the upazila.

PBI inspector and investigation officer of the case Shah Alam said police sought a 7-day remand for Ruhul Amin.

Ruhul’s name surfaced after one of the key accused Shahadat Hossain Shamim gave confessional statement before the court on Sunday.

Shahadat confessed that he had phoned Ruhul immediately after setting Nusrat on fire.

He also said that Ruhul asked him to run away.

Ruhul was also vice-president of the governing body of the madasa and a close associate of the principal Siraj Ud Doula.

Alim examinee Nusrat, after battling for five days,  lost her life on 10 April as she was set afire allegedly for refusing to withdraw a case against madrasa principal Siraj Ud Doula for sexually harassing her last month.
