Sheikh Fazle Fahim elected FBCCI president

Sheikh Fazle Fahim has been elected uncontested as the president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) for the 2019-2021 term.

He replaces Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin at the country's apex business body to take over as its 22nd president, a press release said on Monday.

Fahim is son of Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim, presidium member of Bangladesh Awami League. Fahim was senior vice president in the outgoing committee. He has been elected uncontested as president with the support of 71 newly-elected directors.

Professor Ali Ashraf, chairman of FBCCI election commission, announced the results of the election at Federation building in the capital while Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to prime minister Sheikh Hasina, was present there.

Montakim Ashraf has been elected as senior vice-president while Hasina Newaz, Rezaul Karim Razle and Dilip Kumar Agarwala have been elected as vice presidents from Chamber Group.

Besides, Siddiqur Rahman, Mir Nizam Uddin Ahmed and Nizam Uddin Rajesh have been elected as vice presidents from Association Group.

In the election, both the Chamber and Association groups and formers leaders including president and senior vice presidents supported Sammilito Babsayi Parishad of Sheikh Fazle Fahim.

Sources said that the total number of FBCCI director posts is 72. Of them, 30 directors are nominated, while 42 others are elected from chambers and associations (21 each).
