Dhaka road crash kills woman

A woman was killed in a road accident at Signboard area in Jatrabari on early Saturday while taking her newborn great-granddaughter home.

The victim was identified as Halima Begum, 60. She hailed from Murma village of Munshiganj sadar upazila, reports UNB.

Police said Halima and her son Habibur Rahman had gone to Sylhet to bring her granddaughter and newborn great-granddaughter home.

They reached Signboard area around 4am and were waiting in front of a petrol pump for another vehicle to travel to Munshiganj when Halima was hit by a passenger bus around 4:15am.

She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but succumbed to her injuries around 5am, said sub-inspector Jahirul Islam of Jatrabari police station.

A police team was near the petrol pump when the accident took place. Jahirul said they seized the bus and detained its driver from the spot.
