Road, transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Wednesday said a committee has been formed to identify and remove illegal vehicles from the streets of Dhaka, reports UNB.

He said the committee, led by DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon, was given two months' time to resolve the problem saying, "The committee will detect the small vehicles which run on the streets illegally and stop their activities."

He made the announcement at the board meeting of Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) at Nagar Bhaban.

The minister also said the committee will work to reclaim the footpaths across Dhaka.

"Footpaths are for pedestrians. This committee will conduct campaigns to recover the illegally occupied footpaths," he said.

He assured that the practice of illegal parking will be stopped across the city.

"We believe we can remove the menace of traffic jam if we try sincerely," Quader added.
