Three Bangladeshi nationals have been convicted over the murder of a fellow Bangladeshi on Fuvahmulah island of Maldives in June 2011, reports the Maldives Independent.

“The 25 year-old victim, identified as Shareeful, was found dead in a ditch with signs of torture in 2011,” according to the Maldivian media outlet on Sunday.

On the convicted, the report added, M D Salam and Shareef were sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder.

It also said another defendant Alaal was found guilty of aiding and he was sentenced to 17 years and six months in prison.

“The victim, Shareeful, was taken to Alaal’s room on the night of 28 June 2011 and assaulted by M D Salam and Shareef, who strangled him with a USB cable, banged his head on the floor and snapped his neck. Alaal had checked to see if Shareeful was dead and helped the others to dispose of the body,” according to the verdict quoted in the report.
