A man who police claimed to be a leader of outlawed Purba Bangla Sarbahara Party was found dead in the Garai river in Sreepur upazila of Magura on Thursday.
Police said the deceased was Firoz Joardar, 35, son of Akbar Joardar of Kalikhali in Rajbari district. He was wanted in a number of cases filed for extortion, murder and other criminal activities.
Police recovered the body in the morning after being informed by the locals and sent it to a local hospital for autopsy, said Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.
Firoz might have been killed by his rivals, Rahman added.
