Dhaka’s rail link with northern, southern districts snapped
Rail communications of Dhaka with the northern and southern districts halted since Friday noon following the derailment of Khulna-bound Sundarban Express at the eastern side of Bangabandhu Bridge, reports news agency UNB.
Masum Ali Khan, master of Bangabandhu Bridge Station (East), said two wheels of the Sundarban Express derailed around 1:30pm.
A salvage train is coming from Dhaka, he said, adding that it would take a while to restore the communication.
The accident left Rajshahi-bound Dhumketu Express stuck on the eastern side of the bridge.
Harunor Mazumder, officer-in-charge, Sirajganj railway police (GRP), said Dhaka-bound Silk City Express was also stranded on the western side of the bridge.
