‘Youth dies under police custody’

A young man died under custody at Kishoreganj police station in Nilphamari on Saturday, reports UNB.

Although police claimed that Abdullah al Mamun, 22, son of Tafur Uddin of Kishoreganj municipality area, committed suicide by hanging himself, family members alleged that police tortured him to death.

Ashraf Ali, superintendent of Nilphamari police, said law enforcers arrested Abdullah from his residence early Saturday on charge of stealing cattle and kept him in custody at the police station.

He hanged himself around 4:30pm, the SP said.

Meanwhile, victim's cousin Mohammad Rashid alleged that Abdullah was tortured to death in the custody.
