Woman ‘gang-raped by railway cops’ denied bail

A Khulna court on Sunday rejected the bail petition of a woman who was gang-raped in police custody and shown arrested in a drug-related case, reports UNB.

Khulna judicial magistrate court-1Noyon Biswas rejected the bail petition, said Mominul Islam, a coordinator of Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Organisation. 


On 2 August, five railway policemen allegedly raped a woman after arresting her on allegations of stealing a mobile phone and produced her before a court the next day showing her arrested with five bottles of contraband phensedyl.

The court ordered a medical test after the victim raised allegation of rape.
On 5 August, a three-member committee was formed to look into the incident.
Following the formation of this committee, 2 of the accused, including the OC and an SI of the GRP Station, were withdrawn and attached to the Pakshey station.

Later, the victim filed a case against the five policemen, including the officer-in-charge of Government Railway Police (GRP) station Osman Gani Pathan, SI Nazmul and three others on 9 August.
