Youth stabbed dead for saving niece from abduction

A young man was stabbed to death while trying to save his 14-year-old niece from abduction by a man, who was later lynched at Amirpur village in Chuadanga Sadar upazila on Saturday.

The youth who was stabbed to death is Hasanuzzaman, 25, from the area while the man lynched was identified as Akbar Ali, 36, from Damurhuda upazila.

Police and Hasanuzzaman’s family said the 14-year-old schoolgirl used to stay at her grandfather’s home at the village. Vegetables seller Akbar broke into the house in the morning and tried to abduct the girl.

Hearing the girl screaming, her maternal uncle Hasanuzzaman and grandfather Hamidul Islam tried to save her but Akbar stabbed both of them, leaving them injured critically.

At that time, local people caught Akbar Ali and beat him up, leaving him dead on the spot.

Hasanuzzaman succumbed to his injuries on the way to Sadar Hospital while Hamidul was shifted to Kushtia Medical College Hospital, said Chuadanga Sadar Hospital's physician Abu Ehsan Md Wahed.

The injured schoolgirl was sent home after primary treatment.

Police sent the bodies of Hasanuzzaman and Akbar Ali to the sadar hospital morgue.

Additional police super (admin) of the district Kanailal Sarkar, additional police super (sadar circle) Md Kalimullah, sadar police station officer-in-charge Abu Jihad Fakhrul Alam Khan and inspector (investigation) Lutful kAbir visited the crime scene.
