Railway authorities will take tough legal measures from 1 September against those travelling on roofs of trains, reports UNB.

In these circumstances the railway authority urged the passengers not to travel on rooftop, said a press release.

"Traveling on train roof is risky, unsafe and a criminal offense. Anyone can die due to accident any time. Train schedule may be delayed and valuable government assets may be damaged," the press release said adding that "those who travel on train roofs and encourage others to do the same are equally criminal."

Referring to clause 129 of Railway Act of 1890, the press release mentioned that "as per the clause if any person threatens life of any passengers by his dangerous or reckless activities or neglecting any passenger, then he will be awarded imprisonment up to one year or fine or both.
