The state filed a petition with the Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Sunday seeking stay on the High Court order that had granted bail to Aysha Siddika Minni in a case filed over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif, reports news agency UNB.

Sufia Khatun, lawyer at the attorney general's office, submitted the petition to the Appellate Division of the SC.

Hearing on the petition is likely to be held at the chamber bench of the Appellate Division on Monday.

After hearing a rule on 29 August, the HC granted bail to Minni on condition of staying in her father’s home and refraining from talking to media.

The High Court on 8 August refused to grant bail to Minni in the case, saying that the court can issue a rule but cannot grant her bail right now. The court also said they have to examine the confessional statement of the accused in the case.

On 26 June, Rifat Sharif, 22, was attacked with sharp weapons near the main gate of Barguna Government College. Minni appeared to be trying to protect him during the attack.

Police have so far arrested 16 people over the murder. Besides, main accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayon Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcers on 2 July.

Police arrested Minni on 16 July over the murder of her husband and was denied bail several times. She reportedly confessed to her involvement in the murder before the court on 19 July, two days after her arrest.

On 31 July, Minni filed a petition with a Barguna court seeking withdrawal of her confessional statement over the murder.
