A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed one of the two accused on a three-day remand in a case filed over the rape of a private university student at Shyamoli area in Dhaka.

The chief judicial magistrate in Dhaka granted the remand of rape accused Nahid Patwari, 32, after hearing a petition filed by the police on Tuesday.

Nahid, an employee at a private organisation, was arrested on charges of raping the student by calling her to face an interview for a job, said Abul Kalam Azad, inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station.

Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police in a report submitted to the court said suspect Nahid called the victim over phone on 27 August and asked her to come to Shyamoli.

As she reached there, the report added, she was taken to a fourth-floor apartment.

The suspected rapists offered the student wine, but she refused, the police report said adding they managed her to drink juice mixed with wine.

As she fell unconscious, Nahid and Fahim Ahmed raped her by turns, according to the report.

Earlier, police produced another accused Fahim Ahmed, an unemployed youth, before the court on 29 August seeking a three-day remand. He is now in jail.

The victim filed a case with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station accusing Nahid Patwari and Fahim Ahmed.

In the complaint, the victim said she was introduced with Nahid over Facebook. She talked to him at times.

“On the day of the incident, Nahid called me for an interview. During the interview, they offered me cigarette and liquor. They tactfully managed me to drink liquor mixed with Coca-Cola,” the rape victim said in the complaint.

She also said, “As I fell unconscious, Fahim Ahmed raped me first and then Nahid. After regaining consciousness, I implored them and managed to return home.”
