Jhalakati man gets life term for rape

A Jhalakati court on Monday sentenced a man to life term imprisonment as he raped a speech-impaired teenage girl in Rajapur upazila in 2009, reports UNB.

The rapist was identified as Milon Talukdar, 35, son of Azahar Sikdar of Putiakhali village in Rajapur upazila.

Additional district and sessions judges court judge Sheikh Md Tofayel Hasan passed the order and fined the convict Tk 25,000 or six months' jail in default.

The convict has been on the run.

According to the case statement, Milon violated the victim on 19 August, 2009 when she was alone at her Putikhali home in Rajapur upazila.

Victim's father filed a case with Rajapur police station the next day against Milon.
