Dengue snatches two more lives

.Two dengue-infected people, including a college student, have died in Kushtia and Mymensingh districts while a total of 408 new dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country, reports UNB.

The new deaths were recorded on Saturday while the fresh infections in 24 hours till Saturday morning.

The deceased are Tarek, 18, son of Mahim Uddin of Shyamnagar village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia and a student of Khalishakundi Degree College in Kushtia, and Fatema Begum, 65, wife of late Afsar Ali of Islampur upazila in Jamalpur district.

Kushtia civil surgeon Rowshan Ara said Tarek was admitted to Mirpur Health Complex on Friday with dengue and shifted to Kushtia General Hospital as his condition deteriorated on Saturday morning.

The physicians of Kushtia Hospital referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital and he died on the way to the hospital around 11:00am.

Currently, 72 dengue patients are taking treatment for dengue in the district, he said.

Assistant director of Mymensingh Medical College Hospital Shamsuzzaman said Fatema died around 2:30pm at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

She was admitted to the hospital on 13 September and on Thursday, she was shifted to ICU as her condition deteriorated.

Among the new dengue patients across the country, 135 were hospitalised in Dhaka and 273 in other parts of the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Currently, 2,252 patients, including 917 in the capital, are being treated at hospitals, it said.
Bangladesh has seen a massive outbreak of mosquito-borne disease dengue this year.

Since January, 84,397 people were hospitalised with dengue, most of them in Dhaka. Of them, 81,942 have made full recovery.

Since January, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 203 dengue-related deaths. It has so far reviewed 116 cases and confirmed 68 dengue deaths.
