NID forgery: 3 EC officials on 2-day remand

A Chattogram court on Tuesday granted two days’ remand to three temporary officials of Election Commission (EC) each as they allegedly helped Rohingya refugees to get national identity (NID) cards of Bangladesh.

Chattogram metropolitan magistrate court judge Abu Saleh Md Nooman passed the order after the investigation officer sought seven-day remand for their interrogation, reports news agency UNB.

Chattogram Metropolitan Police additional deputy commissioner Md Kamruzzaman confirmed the matter.

The trio were identified as Md Shahim, Md Zahid and Pavel Barua, data entry operators under Kotwali police station, Bandar police station and Double Mooring police station respectively.

They were arrested from separate places of the district on Sunday.
