Woman 'gang-raped' on promise of sending abroad

Police on Friday arrested a man in the Sadar upazila of Magura for allegedly taking part in the gang rape of a woman in Dhaka, reports UNB.

The arrestee was Nazrul Islam, 30, son of Abdur Rahman of Amuria village in Magura sadar upazila.

Sirajul Islam, officer-in-charge of Magura Sadar police station, said Nazrul took advantage of the victim’s poor financial condition and took her to Dhaka on 13 August, promising to send her to Saudi Arabia for work.

Nazrul, his friends Mokarram Ali, Arju Sheikh and two others took the woman to a house in Darus Salam area and gang-raped her, he added.

The victim managed to flee from their clutches on 12 September and filed a written complaint after returning to Magura, the OC also said.

Police are trying to arrest the other rapists, he added.
