3 get life term for violating woman in Chattogram

A tribunal in Chattogram on Sunday sentenced three people to life term imprisonment for violating a woman in 2017, reports UNB.

The convicts are: Sohel, 32, son of Abdus Sukkur, Mohamamd Mohiuddin, 28, son of Azizul Haque and Foyez Ahmed, 30, son of Tofayel Ahmed of Hathazari upazila.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.

According to the prosecution, the convicts entered the house of the victim at night and violated her in turns after keeping her only child hostage at gun point at Fatehpur in Hathazari upazila on 17 May 2017.

Victim's husband filed a case against the convicts the following day.

Police submitted chargesheet against them on 17 November 2017. Among the convicts, Sohel gave confessional statement before the court under section 164.

After examining the records and six witnesses Chattogram Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal judge Mohammad Motaher Ali handed down the verdict.
