Lightning kills 6 in three dists

Six people were killed and another injured as thunderbolts struck them in Satkhira, Dinajpur and Madaripur districts on Sunday and Monday.

In Satkhira, two people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strike in Debhata and Shyamnagar upazilas of the district on Monday.

Biplab Kumar Saha, officer-in-charge of Debhata police station, said Abdul Malek Morol, 50, son of Ahad Morol of Kora village, was killed as a thunderbolt struck him while he was working at his fish enclosure in the afternoon.

Besides, Tutul Hossain Tuhun, 22, son of Quamrul Islam Gazi of Khutikata village in Shyamnagar upazila, was killed by lightning while he was working in a fish enclosure in the afternoon, said Nazmul Huda, officer-in-charge of Shyamnagar police station.

In Dinajpur, Morshedul Islam, 26, was killed and his father Nejamul Islam Tuku, 60, injured as a thunderbolt struck them while they were working at a paddy field near their house at Kasba Khamarbari in Sadar upazila around 1 pm, said Redwanur Rahim, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station.

In Madaripur, three people died after being struck by lightning at Kulpaddi village in the Sadar upazila on Sunday.

The deceased were identified as BillalHossain 27, Sattar Akon, 30, and Hasina, 24.

Quoting family members and locals, SawgatulAlam, officer-in-charge of Madaripur Sadar police station, said Billal was injured after being struck by lightning around 1:30pm.

He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Sattar and Hasina were killed by lightning strikes around 1:40pm at their homes, the OC added.

Locals said the area was hit by thundershower between 1:30pm and 2pm.

Meanwhile, at least six people, including four of a family, were killed in lightning strikes in Chandpur and Magura around the same time.
