Couple sued over mysterious death of domestic help

A murder case has been filed against Bangladesh Water Development Board’s executive engineer Sayeed Ahmed and his wife Roksana Parvin over the mysterious death of their domestic help Jannati in the capital's Mohammadpur.

Jannati’s father Janu Mollah filed the case with Mohammadpur police station.

Police have already detained Roksana for interrogation.

The 12-year old housemaid, Jannati, who had been working in the house of Sayeed Ahmed on Sir Syed Road of Mohammadpur area for four years, had multiple injury marks on her body.

Jannati’s father Janu Mollah said he was informed on Tuesday morning that Jannati was sick and he should come immediately to see her.

When he reached Dhaka form his home in Bagura’s Gabtoli, he found her daughter dead.

Officer-in-charge of Mohammadpur police station GG Biswas said they had received a call from Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital on Tuesday night. They were told that a couple had brought the body of a teenager.

Police conducted the post-mortem and asked the hospital authorities to conduct an autopsy, he added.

Salim Reza, head of the hospital's forensic medicine department, said the body had marks of injury made with a blunt object.

She might have died of internal bleeding, Reza added.
