President to return home Sunday

President Abdul Hamid will return home on Sunday night wrapping up his eight-day visit to Japan and Singapore, reports UNB. 


A regular flight of Singapore Airlines carrying the president and his entourage from Singapore will land at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 10:40pm, his press secretary Joynal Abedin said.

The president is scheduled to leave Changi International Airport, Singapore for Dhaka at 8:35pm (local time) on the day after ending his two-day stopover in Singapore.

High commissioner of Bangladesh to Singapore Mustafizur Rahman will see the president off at the airport.

Abdul Hamid, who is on a two-nation tour to Japan and Singapore, reached Singapore on Friday after ending his six-day official visit to Japan from 20 October last.

On Tuesday, the president joined the enthronement ceremony of new Japanese emperor Naruhito, who formally declared his ascension as Japan's 126th monarch in front of about 2,000 leaders and representatives from 174 countries and regions at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.

The 59-year-old emperor ascended the chrysanthemum throne on 1 May last.

As part of the occasion, the president attended the Palace Banquet hosted by Japanese new emperor Naruhito and empress Masako the same day. He also joined the banquet hosted by Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe the following day.

Abdul Hamid left here for Japan and Singapore on 20 October.
