Man killed in reported gunfire with RAB

A man was killed in what the law enforcement called a reported gunire with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Hazaribagh, Dhaka on early Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as Nadim Bahadur,38.

RAB claimed the victim was a drug peddler and had been named in nine cases.

A team of RAB was patrolling around the area when gunfire was exchanged with two miscreants on the road adjacent to Sikder medical college, RAB-2 company commander Nazmul Arefin said.

One of the miscreants died while another one fled the scene after the gunfight that took place around 4:20am, he added.

Huge narcotics, pistol and bullets were reportedly recovered from the spot.

According to the human rights body, Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK), at least 421 people were killed in alleged gunfights, crossfires or shootouts with the law enforcement agencies including police, RAB, BGB in 2018.

In the first six months of 2019, the number of such killing was at least 200, the rights body said on its website.
