Man jailed for sexually harassing CU girl

A mobile court jailed a man for six months for harassing a female student of Chittagong University on a bus in the city, reports UNB.

The convict was identified as Md Manik Mia, 32, from Mondakini of Hathazari Upazila.

The victim, a first-year student, said Manik sat behind her on the bus she took to the campus in the morning.

“He kept touching me for 10 to 15 minutes. Initially I thought it was unintentional but he didn’t stop,” she said.

Other passengers came to her rescue when she raised her voice and detained Manik.

CU proctor SM Monirul Hasan said they went to the zero point police box and handed over the accused to Hathazari Police.

Later, Hathazari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ruhul Amin conducted a mobile court and sentenced him to jail.
