Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad celebrated the symbolic launch of countdown of birth centenary celebration and Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on Friday with due solemnity.

An event was organised at the chancery with the participation of all officials of the High Commission as well as guests, reports UNB.

The programme began with placing of wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan and other officials of the mission.

Messages from the president and prime minister, released on the occasion, were read out by the officials then.

During discussion, High Commissioner Tarik Ahsan paid rich tribute to the memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He said in keeping with the inauguration of the colourful countdown programme in Dhaka by prime minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh High Commission was holding the symbolic launch of the countdown.

He said the fact that the countdown began from the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation was particularly significant for Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad because, after Bangladesh’s victory in the War of Liberation, Bangabandhu came back home with honour from Islamabad.

The envoy expressed the hope that the present generation of Bangladesh, imbued with the ideals of Bangabandhu in 'Mujib Borsho' (Mujib Year), would materialise the Golden Bengal as dreamt by Bangabandhu.

A special prayer was offered seeking eternal peace of the souls of Bangabandhu and the martyrs of the liberation war as well as for continued peace, progress and prosperity of Bangladesh.

A video documentary on the Countdown and Home Coming Day was also screened.
