Poppy fields found, destroyed in Bandarban

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive found and destroyed four poppy fields in Bandarban's Ruma upazila on Friday. 

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by RAB-7 commander Mashiur Rahman Jewel, conducted the drive in the isolated area and found that a group of drug dealers were cultivating poppy on seven acres of land.

The drug dealers fled the area before the RAB team’s arrival. Later, RAB destroyed the four poppy fields, the elite force said in a press release.

RAB said a group of drug dealers cultivate poppy to produce heroin and opium.

A case was filed at Ruma police station.
