International affairs subcommittee of Awami League (AL) on Sunday briefed diplomats stationed in Dhaka on the just-held elections to the two Dhaka city corporations, saying the development works of the current government were reflected in the results, reports UNB.

Prime minister's political affairs adviser HT Imam, AL's international affairs secretary Shammi Ahmed, former ambassador Muhammad Zamir, Suchinta Foundation chairman Mohammad A Arafat and diplomats from various foreign missions were present at the briefing held at a city hotel in the evening.

The diplomats were briefed on how the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) stopped vote-rigging and manipulation, said a source.

BNP's 'failure' over effective door-to-door campaign was also highlighted in the briefing, said the source.

Awami League mayoral candidates were declared elected in the elections to Dhaka north city corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka south city corporation (DSCC) held on Saturday.

Ruling party contestant Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh won the DSCC election bagging 424,595 votes. He defeated BNP's Ishraque Hossain, who polled 236,512, by 188,083 votes.

In DNCC, AL runner Atiqul Islam got 447,211 votes to defeat Tabith Awal of BNP who polled 264,161 by 183,050 votes.
