PBI reveals murder mystery of Ayub Gang chief

Md Ayub, the chief of a criminal group named the Ayub Gang, allegedly strangled Abdus Sattar Talukder 32 years ago in Rangunia upazila. There were more than 12 murder cases against Ayub, including the murder of freedom fighter Abdus Sobhan. Fearing for life, no one in the area ever spoke against him. But Abdus Sattar’s two sons were seeking to avenge their father’s murder. They hired professional killers for Tk 2 million who shot Md Ayub dead in October last year.

The five accused arrestees of Ayub murder case confessed this to Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).


PBI arrested them in several drives in Rangunia and Raujan area recently. The accused confessed their involvement in the murder to the senior judicial magistrate Shahidullah Kaisar on Monday.


Md Ayub ws shot dead in Alam Shahpara area of Rangunia upazila on 5 October. His wife filed a case with Rangunia police station in this regard. PBI took over the case in January as the local police failed to find the motive of the murder.


Additional superintendent of PBI Chattogram, Rezaul Karim, told Prothom Alo on Tuesday, Abdus Sattar’s two sons Md Mohsin and Md Hassan made a deal with a professional killer who was on the run at the time, to avenge their father’s murder that took place in 1987.


“Ayub was killed as per the contract. Five accused arrested by the PBI have given confessional statements in court. Drives are underway to catch the others involved,” he added.


Inspector of PBI Chattagram Mozammel Haque said six people took part in the murder of Ayub while there were six to seven people involved in the planning. Abdus Sattar's sons are also made accused in the murder case.


According to police, the Ayub Gang leader was accused in 12 cases. Apart from the murder case of Abdus Sattar, he was accused in the murder case of freedom fighter Abdus Sobhan in 1991, former major Abdul Wadud in 1985, certain Meheruzzaman and Gafur in 1986, Nurul Islam in 1992. He allegedly gouged out the eyes of Abdus Sobhan’s sons when they were going to testify in their father’s murder case.
