Independent TV chairman, 3 others sued

A Tk 10-crore defamation case was filed with a local court on Wednesday against Independent TV chairman Salman F Rahman and three others for broadcasting a ‘defamatory’ report.

AKM Bahauddin Bahar, Awami League MP from Comilla-6 constituency, filed the case with the Joint Judge Court-1.

The other accused are television channel’s head of news Khaled Muhiuddin, its staff reporter Mahbub Alam and Comilla district correspondent SM Solaiman.

Accepting to the case, judge Mir Emtazul Haque asked the accused to appear before court on November 27 to explain their stance.

In his case statement, the MP said the television channel broadcast a news item headlined ‘Several ministers, MPs patrons of BNP-Jamaat misdeeds’ on September 29.

In the report, it was claimed that Bahar was patronising Monirul Haque Sakku, assistant secretary of Comilla South BNP and mayor of Comilla City Corporation.

The report tarnished the image of the MP, he claimed.
