The High Court rejected the bail petition of Awami League MP Manjurul Islam of Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) constituency and ordered him to surrender in the concerned trial court by 18 October allegedly for shooting a minor boy.

Earlier, an HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Vishmadev Chakrabarty passed an order on Monday morning, asking him to appear before the court at 1:00pm on Monday.

On 2 October, lawmaker Manjurul Islam allegedly shot a minor boy, Shahadat Hossain Shourav, in the leg with a pistol at Gopalcharan village of Sundarganj in Gaibandha.

Locals said stray bullets from the pistol of the local MP struck Sourav when Manjurul was going to his Bamondanga village home driving his own car, leaving the boy injured.

A case was filed against Manjurul on the day in this connection. He went into hiding since then.
