Kalsindur village to get power

Kalsindur in Mymensingh district will soon be lit up, fulfilling the wishes of the indomitable girls of this remote village, said state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam. These girls have displayed amazing football skills at home and abroad.
The minister came up with the promise in a Facebook message to Prothom Alo’s associate editor Anisul Hoque on Saturday.
The girls of Kalsindur, who have brought honour and pride to the country through their excellent performance, are from Kalsindur primary school.
Ten girls of Kalsindur - Marzia Akhtar, Sanjida Akhtar,
Najma Akhtar, Sheuli Azim, Maria Manda, Mahmuda Akhtar, Lopa Akhtar, Shamsunnahar, Taslima and Tahura Aktar - were among the 18-member Bangladesh team which played in the regional championship of AFC under-14 football tournament in Nepal last year.
They drew with India 1-1, and defeated Bhutan by 16-0 goals at the group level. The Bangladesh team set the final match with Nepal, defeating Iran by 2-0 in the semi-finals. But the final match could not be held due to the tragic earthquakes in Nepal.
On the occasion of Prothom Alo’s 17th founding anniversary, the daily paid a tribute to the ten girls of Kalsindur by making a documentary to portray their indomitable spirit for football.
The documentary that has been directed by Redwan Rony touched all hearts at the anniversary programme.
Prothom Alo associate editor Anisul Hoque, also a popular litterateur, came to know from the girls that they could not watch the documentary in Kalsindur as there was no power in the village.
When asked about their wishes, all the ten girls told Anisul Hoque they want their village to get electricity.
Anisul Hoque posted a Facebook status on Saturday morning, requesting the government to provide electricity to Kalsindur village which houses ten national players.
Shortly after the Facebook post, state minister for foreign affairs Shahriar Alam told Anisul Hoque that he has contacted Nasrul Hamid, state minister for power, energy and mineral resources over the issue. And, Nasrul Hamid directed authorities concerned to take steps to transmit power to Kalsindur village.
