DU female student sets herself afire

A female student of Dhaka University suffered serious burn injuries as she allegedly set herself afire on the campus on Thursday, reports news agency UNB.
The injured was identified as Anjumanara Begum Antara, 20, a 3rd year student of the department of Persian Language and Literature and a resident of Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall.
Students said the girl entered a toilet on the first floor of
Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) of the university around 3:45pm and set herself on fire by pouring kerosene on her body.
Sensing the matter, some students rescued her from the toilet and took her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
Antara is undergoing treatment at HDU (high dependency unit) burns care of the hospital with 28 percent burn injures.
The girl attempted to kill herself allegedly being deceived by her boyfriend - a student of Department of Theatre and Performance Studies- of the same university, sources at the campus said.
Contacted, DU acting proctor Amzad Ali said they are investigating the matter and have taken measures for the treatment of the girl.
