Ruling Awami League member of parliament (Natore-4) Abdul Quddus has helped 47 villagers in his constituency get back money they paid in bribes to a Jubo League leader for electricity connections to their homes.

The incident took place on Sunday while the MP was inaugurating power connection lines at a programme held in the village Nowapara of Gurudaspur, Natore.

According to local sources, a Jubo League leader Yunus Ali and his followers collected Tk 2,500 each as bribes from the 47 subscribers to provide power connections to their residences.

Upon hearing about the bribes, local MP Abdul Quddus asked the Jubo League leader to return the money.

Abdul Quddus said, “I learnt about the incident around six months ago from a Facebook post and directed the Jubo League leader to return the money.”

“He finally returned the money and I distributed it to the subscribers. Now I am relieved,” he added.

However, the Jubo League leader Yunus Ali claimed that he had collected the money to pay officials in order to get the electricity connections.

He said, as the officials did not take the money, he returned it to the local MP.
