Retired Supreme Court judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury on Monday said he would not return the case records he has, terming the chief justice’s instruction to return them 'an illegal order'.

Shamsuddin Chowdhury, former Appellate Division judge, was talking to reporters at the Mazargate on the Supreme Court premises before submitting the judgements he has written after his retirement, to his presiding judge Abdul Wahab Mia.

Earlier on Sunday, chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha urged retired Supreme Court judge AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury to refrain from speaking to the media about judiciary, and asked him to return all the case documents he kept with him.

Talking to reporters, Shamsuddin said justice Md Abdul Wahab Mia on Monday agreed to accept his written verdicts. “But, I will in no way return the case documents to the SC,” said the former justice.
