OMS of rice halted for not maintaining social distancing
The food ministry on Monday suspended the sale of rice at Tk 10 per kg as people do not maintain social distancing properly while buying it, reports UNB.
Food secretary Nazmanara Khanam said people were seen in long queues while collecting OMS rice in Dhaka, Narayanganj and other districts. "As a result, it's not possible to ensure social distancing which poses the risk of coronavirus transmission. That's why the rice sale has been suspended."
The government started selling OMS rice at Tk 10 per kg from 5 April in Dhaka while in the district and municipalities from 7 April following the coronavirus pandemic.
