People mostly workers thronged into the Shimulia Ghat of Munshiganj district to go to Narayanganj and Dhaka.

Sirajul Islam, in-charge of Mawa river police camp, said, “Some 2,000 people have reached at the Shimulia ghat area by three ferries and left for their workplaces through Mawa point.”

Law enforcement at the Kathalia ghat helped them to board the ferries after ensuring their identities, he said

As the plying of public transport remained suspended following the lockdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, the capital and Narayanganj-bound people left for their designated destinations by human hauler and auto-rickshaw with excessive fares, facing huge trouble.

Some people were seen travelling on pick-ups after hiring them at high rates.

“We don’t allow any small vehicle on the express way and that’s why the people who are heading towards the capital are facing trouble as they are counting extra fare for reaching their respective destination,” said Mohammad Helal Uddin, in-charge of Mawa traffic police.
