7th phase election to 138 union parishads 7 February

The 7th and final phase election to 138 union parishads from 20 districts will be held on 7 February, said the schedule announced by the election commission, reports UNB.

As per the election schedule, the deadline for submission of nomination is 12 January, while the date for scrutiny of nomination papers is 15 January and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is 22 January.

Voting in the last phase of the union parishad election will be held from 8:00am to 4:00pm without any break, said EC joint secretary (public relations) SM Asaduzzaman on Wednesday.

The 138 union parishads include 24 in Cumilla district, 19 in Rangamati, 17 in Rangpur, 16 in Chattogram, 11 in Mymensingh, nine in Kishoreganj, eight in Noakhali, seven in Sunamganj, six in Patuakhali, five in Khagrachhari, three in Bandarban, two each in Thakurgaon, Nilphamari, Joypurhat and Sirajganj, and one each in Chuadanga, Jhenaidah, Pirojpur, Sylhet and Cox’s Bazar.

The electronic voting machines (EVMs) will be used in only six union parishads, while traditional ballot paper will be used in the remaining 132 UPs.
