BNP leader Sanaullah Miah dies

Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s law affairs secretary Sanaullah Miah died on Friday night.

He was 60.

Sanaullah Miah, also former president of Dhaka Bar Association, breathed his last around 8:30pm at Gonoshasthaya Kendra Hospital in the city, said BNP chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.

He said the lawyer suffered brain haemorrhage after the 11th national election in 2018 and received treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences Hospital in the city for a long time.

Later, he was sent to Singapore for better treatment and returned home with little improvement in his health condition.

Sayrul said Sanaullah was admitted to Gonoshasthaya Kendra Hospital on Thursday as he was affected by pneumonia alongside kidney problem where he died while undergoing treatment.

He said the lawyer is survived by wife, two sons, one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

Sanaullah came to the spotlight during the 1/11 political changeover in 2007 as he defended Khaleda in different cases as her lawyer.

He was also elected a member of Bangladesh Bar Council.

Sayrul said Sanaullah Miah will be buried at his family graveyard in Narsingdi’s Shibpur upazila.

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman and the party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir expressed deep shock at his death.

They recalled his courageous role as a lawyer during the 1/11 political changeover and outstanding legal aids provided to the party leaders and activists during the time of ‘democratic crisis’.

The BNP leaders prayed for salvation of his departed soul and conveyed their profound sympathy to his bereaved family members.
