Pregnant woman dies at Faridpur hospital for ‘negligence’

A pregnant woman died at Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Monday as she was not reportedly given oxygen support, reports UNB.

The deceased was identified as Ripa Das, 32, wife of Mithun Sarkar in Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district.

Dhiraj Kumar, a relative of the victim, said Ripa was a two and half months pregnant. She was taken to the hospital on Sunday due to internal bleeding.

As she was under Kaniz Fatema, a gynecologist of the hospital, the physician asked her to do abortion.

Later, she got abortion following a surgery by the physician on Sunday night.

On Monday morning, Ripa was shifted to the ward of the hospital and at one stage, she got respiratory problem.

The hospital authorities could not provide any oxygen support to her despite repeated requests, said Dhiraj.

Later, she died at the hospital.

Contacted, Saifur Rahmna, director of the hospital, said he had no idea about it but action will be taken after getting written complaint.
