President Abdul Hamid has accepted the resignation letter of disgraced state minister for information and broadcasting Murad Hassan, reports UNB.

A gazette on Tuesday night said this.

Earlier, on Monday, the prime minister ordered Murad to resign from the ministry for making derogatory and indecent comments on videos, said ruling Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday in a press briefing.

Following the order, Murad Hassan sent his resignation letter to the ministry on Tuesday. An official of the ministry said the state minister sent the letter through email.

The ministry sources said Murad has cited “personal reasons” for resignation in the letter.

Murad is also the lawmaker of Jamalpur-4 constituency. He was relieved from Awami League’s Jamalpur district executive committee on Tuesday afternoon.

At an emergency meeting held at its party office in Bakultola area in the town, Jamalpur district AL relieved Murad from its health and population affairs secretary post under section 47/9 of the AL’s constitution.

Jamalur district AL president advocate Mohammad Baki Billah presided over the meeting.

He said considering the recent Facebook live, talk-shows, various statements of Murad and his telephonic conversations with a film actress, prime minister directed him to resign from the state minister post.

“Accordingly, we think that all activities of Murad Hassan contrary to the AL’s policy and unanimously we took the punitive measure against him,” Baki Billah added.

A video of state minister Murad Hassan went viral on social media, where he has blatantly made indecent remarks about Zaima Rahman, granddaughter of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia.

While comments about Zaima were heavily criticised, another leaked audio of Murad threatening and using extremely abusive language to an actress over the phone also went viral in social media.

Apart from this, Murad also made offensive remarks about women leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s Dhaka University unit in another video live-streamed on Facebook.

Following the incidents, information minister Hasan Mahmud has said both the government and Awami League felt embarrassed with the indecent remarks of Murad Hassan.

“We have noticed some changes in Murad over the past few days and his recent remarks embarrassed both the government and the party. That’s why prime minister has asked him to quit,” he said while talking to newspersons at the secretariat.
