Rashtrochinta organiser Didarul 'picked up'

Didarul BhuiyanCollected

Didarul Bhuiyan, an organiser of the platform Rashtrochinta, was picked up from his residence in Uttar Badda in Dhaka allegedly by a team of law enforcement in plain clothes on Tuesday.

On Tuesday evening, a group of people came Didarul’s home in two black microbuses, according to a close friend of Didarul. He said, the people were in plain clothes and they claimed themselves as members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

They said Didarul would be released after an interrogation, he added.

Didarul’s laptop and mobile phone were allegedly seized too.

“We’re worried as Didarul was picked up without any arrest warrant. We demand his immediate release,” said Hasnat Quaiyum, a member of Rashtrochinta and a Supreme Court advocate, and added that Didarul was detained at a time when Rashtrochinta had been distributing relief for the poor and destitute.

No comments were available from RAB-3 as Prothom Alo tried to reach the captain over phone.

However, Tofayel Mustafa Sorwar, additional director general of RAB, said, “I’ve no information regarding Didarul,” and added he was not aware whether Didaurl was picked up by RAB-3.

Didarul Bhuiya used to criticise the role of the government on Facebook regarding coronavirus control and relief distribution.
